General

Assess, treat, and care for patients with breathing disorders within the scope of practice designated by the standards of AHHE. Assume primary responsibility for all respiratory care modalities. This includes supporting delivery technicians who may be performing designated respiratory deliveries. Initiate and conduct therapeutic procedures; maintain patient records; and select, assemble, check, and operate the equipment.

The RT is responsible for the use of sales, service and educational skills to ensure safe delivery, set up, and use of equipment, and maintain the quality provider image for the company in the community.

Salary: Pay structure is based off experience, knowledge and years of service.
Reports To: Respiratory Manager

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Deliver equipment and oxygen in compliance with all applicable company policies and procedures as well as any regulatory guidelines.
  2. Educate patients and their families about their conditions and teach appropriate disease management techniques, such as breathing exercises and the use of medications and respiratory equipment.
  3. Explain treatment procedures to patients to gain cooperation and allay fears.
  4. Perform doctor ordered testing and adjustments on equipment to obtain optimum results in therapy (ie. sat tests, overnight oximetry, PAP pressure adjustments, etc.).
  5. Work as part of a team consisting of customer service representatives, delivery technicians, referrals and other health care professionals to manage patient care.
  6. Inspect, clean, test and maintain respiratory therapy equipment to ensure equipment is functioning safely and efficiently, ordering repairs when necessary. 
  7. Manage inventory levels of respiratory therapy equipment. 
  8. Assume on-call duties to apply with the location responsibilities.
  9. Make emergency visits to resolve equipment problems.
  10. Develop a working knowledge of the service area so that deliveries and other stops can be planned in a logical cost-effective routing.
  11. Assure proper maintenance of the vehicles under their control.
  12. Complete all regulatory paperwork accurately and timely.   
  13. Maintain and complete a daily activity log.
  14. Turn in all necessary billing paperwork daily

Additional responsibilities:

  1. Performs other related duties as assigned.
  2. Responsible for neatness of work area and security of patient files.
  3. Assists in special projects as requested.
  4. Rotating on-call.

Qualifications

Education:
Current Registered Respiratory Therapy License.

Experience/Knowledge/Personality:

  1. Ability to pass a drug and alcohol screening.
  2. Ability to lift weight in excess of 30 pounds.
  3. Valid Drivers License.
  4. Ability to communicate effectively with patients and co-workers.
  5. Neat, professional appearance.
  6. DOT screening and current CDL or CDL eligible when applying to operate an oxygen delivery van.
